House With No Name

Shibby Pictures + Josh Taft Tour + Eric Andershine + Rug-Hugger Skookum + Nate Mays | December 11th, 2014

The night started with Nate Mays. Nate’s one of my favorite local artists. He plays folk-punk, and is one of our strongest songwriters in the city. He’s also fresh home from touring with Etana Caplin and Jonny Merrit.

Nate was followed by Eric Andershine, a relative newcomer to THWNN, but very strong. He’s an acoustic singer-songwriter with a powerful delivery.

Following Eric was Josh Taft, who, alongside Jak Kerley of Shibby Pictures as a videographer, was the touring artist of the night. Josh’s lyricism was quirky and intelligent, and his delivery was energetic and captivating. He had a sense of humor about his set… the best of which involved burping on tempo.

Jak Kerley’s screening of his Shibby Pictures work was great. We’ve never done a film screening before, but we had an awesome attentive audience for the showing. Two of his music videos featured ‘Days n Daze’, a traveling band from Austin, Texas that had played the house just a few weeks earlier. He screened videos for a few other bands, a preview of a folk-punk documentary he’d made, and a dialogue-driven drama piece that was, frankly, awesome.

Betsy Ross took us downstairs and rocked out. They’re releasing an album soon, look out for that. Amazing band.

Closing out the show was Eli Rousculp of Rug-Hugger Skokum and myself (Sandeep Sehbi of The Runovers, FreshFX, New Shoes) trading songs in a songwriter round.
